What Is V.92?

V.92 is a dial-up modem standard that introduces three new features that will add convenience and performance for PathWay customers. The three features are quick connect, Modem-on-Hold™ (MOH) and the V.44 compression protocol.

The quick connect feature of a V.92 modem cuts the modem connect time by up to 50% so you can dial-in faster.

The Modem-on-Hold™ feature tells you when you have an incoming call and allows you to put the modem on hold to take the call.

The main feature that makes a V.92 modem faster than your old modem is the new compression protocol, V.44 (Please note that not all V.92 modems include V.44 data compression). V.44's higher compression ratios mean that more data can be downloaded in the same amount of time. The most significant improvement will be noticed when you are browsing and searching the web, since HTML text files are highly compressible. For most users, download speeds will be increased by 20 to 60%.
