Press ReleaseGRAND RAPIDS, MI — May 27, 2004 — As the technology media continue to handicap the race between cable modem, DSL, and wireless for the broadband platform of the future, Dial-up Internet access continues to dominate the lion's share of the residential market — outpacing all broadband options combined by a wide margin. Dial-up Service Providers in competition for a greater share of an arguably static market have improved their service and price mix at a faster pace than even these emerging technologies providers. Clearly, the latest "disruptive technology" to redefine Dial-up has been the introduction of the accelerator — a combination of new techniques and software that can vastly reduce the time required to pass data over your old phone line and modem. The results are web page and email download speeds up to as 5 or more times faster than regular Dial-up. National, regional, and even some local ISP's are incorporating these accelerators for an additional monthly fee ranging generally from $3 to $7. One Michigan ISP, PathWay Internet Services, which serves all of Michigan's Lower Peninsula, recently launched it's own accelerator, branded PathWay Turbo. The difference is that PathWay is not even charging its customers to use it. "We believe accelerated Dial-up will be the standard, if it isn't already," says Horace Demmink, CEO of PathWay. "Some ISPs try charging for e-mail filtering, some do for postal billing, some for tech support, some even for paying monthly - and nearly all do for an accelerated service. We're just not going to do the ala Carte thing - it seems misleading. When you order a hamburger, you don't expect to get charged extra for the meat." "According to Demmink, PathWay has not raised their prices for three years, and yet "has dramatically improved our network quality and geographic coverage, and continuously added value to the service. The PathWay Turbo accelerator is the latest of these, and the response has been immediate, and one hundred percent positive."
